Organic California Blueberries. The blueberry is a small round berry with a smooth, dark blue, outer skin which has a silvery bloom. Varieties include Bright Blue, Becky Blue and Bright Well.
Blueberries, a relative of the cranberry, are native to North America and were first observed by early explorers. The American Indians called them star berries because of the five-pointed star-shaped calyx at the base of the fruit.
Preparation and Use
Blueberries should be stored unwashed in the fridge. Before the fruit is eaten, wash it and allow it to reach room temperature just prior to consumption. The berries freeze very well.
Blueberries can be added as flavourings to muffins, cakes, breads and pancakes. They are delicious in pies. They can also be added to homemade ice cream and yogurt.

5 a Day - 2 handfuls or 4 heaped tablespoons of blueberries counts as one portion towards 5 a day.
Blueberries are a good source of vitamin A and vitamin C. They also contain significant amounts of a number of minerals - calcium, potassium, phosphorus, and magnesium.
Blueberries contain a compound (also in cranberries) that is thought to be beneficial for urinary tract infections.
